Ho jaavo ni
mor liyavo,
ni mere naal gaya
ajj lad ke,
Oh allah kare jeh
aa jaave sohna,
devan jaan kadma
vich dhar ke.
[Someone,go and get my lover,
Who has fought with me and gone away.
If he comes backs
I shall place my life at his feet
]
ho Challa beri oye
buhe, Ve vatan
mahi da door e,
ve jaana pehle poor ve, ve gall sun challeya chora,
[Listen O finger ring,
inside the boat,
My beloved’s land is far away,
I have to start early in the morning,
Listen oh boy,oh thief.

what is the translation of the entire song???? please help.
ady said this on June 18, 2008 at 8:22 pm |
This is the translation of the original Challa sung by Gurdas Maan, not the new one. Check it out on You Tube. I translated it into English with help from an expert on Olden Punjabi. Hope it helps you enjoy the son even more! Some translations are not literal and have been generalised a bit so that it makes sense in English. If you don’t quite understand the translation, I’ve got a detailed commentary explaining what each line means.
Someone go and bring him back
He has rowed with me and left
If only Allah brought him back
I would lay my life at his feet
Oh ring,
The tree at our door has blossomed the flowers of spring
But my beloved is in a far away land
If he doesn’t return before the pomegranates bloom
Then I shall go out looking for him
Oh listen to me Oh ring
Oh thief of my heart,
why have you punished me with this sorrow
Oh the ring I placed on the brink of the well
Come and talk to me face-to-face
Fear the Mighty Lord
Oh listen to me Oh ring
Nothing is hidden from God
Oh ring, look at the black peppers
I shall die by drinking Thornapple
And you will be blamed for my death
Oh listen to me Oh ring
Oh you have burnt me like the coal in the stove
Oh ring I shine and polish you
And sons are sweet cakes for mothers
May Allah bestow all mothers with them
Oh listen to me Oh ring, Oh crow*
Mothers are like the acacia shade in the desert*
Oh ring, look at the studs in my ears
The whole village talks about them
They throw around gossip about me like the grain tossing in the winnow
Oh listen to me Oh ring,
Oh beloved you have burned me like a coal
Oh ring, look at the necklace around my neck
Oh the love of my live has left me
This is my painful story
Oh come and listen to me Oh beloved
You know there is nothing hidden from you
Oh I have pawned the ring
Oh I have pawned the ring
For Lovers do not last forever
And we have to bear the pains of life
Oh listen to me Oh ring
There is no avail in grieving
Check out this link if you don’t understand, it explains it, albeit it is written not in English but Punjabi transliterated in English text:

hi me too is looking for the meaning of the song i have a doubt in the meaning given
ho Challa beri oye
buhe, Ve vatan
mahi da door e,
ve jaana pehle poor ve, ve gall sun challeya chora,
[Listen O finger ring,
inside the boat,
My beloved’s land is far away,
I have to start early in the morning,
Listen oh boy,oh thief
i think
ho Challa beri oye buhe
may be interpreted as
oh challa, even doors have become enemy (waiting for beloved)

accordin to me ” challa beri hoye buhe ” means the doors through which his/her beloved one comes had became plum tree ( kind of thorny creeper plant ) which stops his/her lover to come in……….
